Gender Links, a Southern African NGO with regional offices in Johannesburg specialising in gender, media, women’s rights and governance, seeks the services of an experienced individual to join the Alliance and Partnerships team and serve as a Southern African Gender Protocol Alliance Officer for South Africa. Gender Links provides the Secretariat to the regional Southern Africa Gender Protocol Alliance, a ‘network of networks’ that comprises 15 country networks across SADC and eight theme clusters.

Based in Johannesburg, the incumbent will be expected to develop a strategy and action plan to build and sustain the South Africa Alliance Network, identify champions and work with the national gender machinery towards the attainment of the 28 targets of the SADC Gender Protocol.

Key performance areas

  • Coalition building.
  • Developing and managing gender campaigns.
  • Training and capacity building on women’s rights.
  • Monitoring and evaluation of South Africa’s progress towards attainment of gender equality, in particular the 28 targets of the SADC Gender Protocol.
  • Research, writing and ability to produce high quality knowledge and IEC materials.
  • Administration and budget control.
  • You may be called upon to provide support to the Alliance team in related work in the rest of the SADC countries.

Skills and requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in gender, social science or any related degree
  • Minimum 5 years working experience preferably in a gender related field
  • Knowledge of South Africa women’s rights sector
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of the SADC region will be an advantage.
